Twitter is a very interesting social media platform in respect to how information is shared and the structure of every tweet. Twitter in general focuses more on words, phrases, and sentences rather than pictures and videos. Now this is a generalization and some people do in fact use pictures and videos as they are present on the app. But they are not as abundant as Facebook and Instagram, as those social media platforms involve them almost as a necessity for a post to go up. Out of Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram I joined Twitter second in January of 2015 and since then Twitter has been my favorite one of the “main” three sites that are used today. I’ve never been much of a picture person so having a site where they are not needed in any capacity to post really speaks to me and allows me to express myself. This ultimately has led me to use the platform every day and I even check it more than once a day, I am constantly on twitter posting, liking, and retweeting so that it will always be documented on my page. Twitter’s main forms of posting are your own, retweeting, and liking. Obviously, your own posts are your own and are put on the live feed of all of your followers. Retweeting is when you take someone else’s tweet and repost it where now your followers can see a tweet that you enjoy from someone they may not follow. Lastly, liking is a way for you to save tweets to your own page but it is not directly shared with your followers, they must visit your page and click on the likes tab in order to view these. However sometimes liked tweets do appear on a timeline but this is rare and completely random. Liking is the best way for someone to create a semi-private bank of videos, photos, and posts that you find funny and enjoyable. For me personally I do more retweeting and liking than tweeting. Using retweeting and likes is the best way to get to know someone’s personality because putting forth a “fake” persona is much harder.
My retweeting is rare and usually is a post with a picture or video attached to it. (pictures below, video example hyperlinked). Dirk Nowitzki is a professional basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA.

This photo was posted last season in one of his only dunk attempts of the season, this is largely due to the fact that he is 38 at this point and time so this has a become a rarity to him in the later part of his career. What makes the image of Dirk so funny is that even he can see and accept the fact that he is not the player he once was and that if he does get the chance to dunk it is a big deal. The fact that he can look at what are seen as small things in a way that are comical is something that can relate to a person who has watched him throughout his career and has ultimately been seeing the signs of decline. Being from Fort Worth, many of my friends are also from the area and have the same feelings towards Dirk but more importantly can all see his decline, currently Dirk has played for the Mavericks for 20 seasons which is a very long time to be playing any sport professionally let alone basketball as it is a very physically demanding sport. This makes moments such as this history to a sense to the great career that Dirk has and his attitude that he has always had. He loves the game of basketball but realizes that he can never do it forever and that he won’t play much longer.
The other picture, which is something that I have liked recently, is the one thing that almost all people who have been in Texas can relate to since it has probably happened to them once, if not multiple times over their course of living in Texas.
The main theme of this account is to post about Texas and some of the things that only people who visit regularly or live here can really relate to. They want to reach out to people and have them remember the numerous times that this has happened to them, and the overall pain that is felt. But something that is also special about this post is that the only thing people need to have in order to relate to it is experience of being in Texas in the summer. This adds another group of people beyond the intended audience. But for me, something I constantly tell my friends from out of state about is how there is a huge difference in the weather daily here but also seasonally. It can be cold and raining and then the next day be warm and sunny. But as most of them have yet to experience a Texas thunderstorm or the middle of Texas summer, and I’m patiently waiting for that moment when they finally see what I’m talking about. It’s hard to try to explain to them any of the things that this page posts about as it usually requires experiencing the event and have a common ground of this past experience in order to be able to find the humor.
Now the video on the other hand is just flat out funny and can relate to a time where everyone at some point will be or has been. This kid wreaking havoc by not being able to control the bobcat he is driving and the tag about how this is like when you first begin Drivers Ed is all too fitting. Again, the post relates to an emotion that everyone will feel at some point in time, fear, but in the end, it provides a comical and even sensationalized approach to driving for the first time. Now I don’t doubt that for some people their first experience was like this but for the most part some people’s fear of driving in any way similar to this was exactly that, just fear.
All three of these tweets are very different from one another but they still come together to show how I’m an outgoing person and that I enjoy comedy. Comedy is something that truly expresses the type of personality that someone has and how looking at a limited number of posts can reveal aspects of how someone thinks. If someone were to see these posts of myself then they can conclude that I love basketball (am a fan of the Mavericks), and that I am most likely from Texas or visit there often. All these conclusions ultimately lead to the formation of how other people see me, and I try my best to portray my true self through my likes and retweets, so if new people meet me they know who I am and do not have to try to guess. Some people may question why I don’t really tweet myself and to that I would say because I can never gather these ideas on my own and when I see other people with the same ideas I will retweet or like it. I don’t have confidence in my own tweets because I can never get my ideas to solidify into something that I think has value. My profile picture and header show me hanging out with friends and having a good time, this only continues to build on what I have realized is my goal of Twitter, to present me in the best way possible. I believe that I have achieved this goal that I never realized I really had until now.
